Jeffrey Tam Joins Prestigious Magicians' Competition In England

xdMANILA, Philippines – TV host-comedian Jeffrey Tam will attempt to continue his magical winning streak by competing at the 2012 FISM World Championship of Magic in Blackpool, England.

The "Umagang Kay Ganda" host will fly to London on July 5 for the competition, which will be held from July 9 to 14. Dubbed as the "Olympics" of magic, the FISM (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques or the International Federation of Magic Societies) World Championships of Magic is conducted every three years, and participated in by outstanding conjurers from all over the world.

The said bout will be the last one Jeff would join, his co-host, ABS-CBN reporter Alex Santos, pointed out, since the former had already competed and won in various international magic tournaments.

Jeff has been a fixture in the magic world for years now.

He has showcased his skills in countries such as United Kingdom, Malaysia, France, and Spain. A six-time close-up magic champion from 2008 to 2011, Jeff won at the 2009 International Magic Extravaganza in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the 2011 Bangkok International Magic Extravaganza in Thailand, to name a few.

And last year, he became the first Filipino to win at the 2011 FISM Asian Magic Championship in Hong Kong. The International Magicians Society also bestowed on him the 2012 Merlin Award for Best Close-Up Parlour Magic.

Jeff's co-hosts on the show gave him a send-off tribute of sorts on Thursday morning. In turn, he pulled out a trick which got another one of his co-hosts Winnie Cordero teary-eyed: Jeff asked fellow host Ariel Ureta to keep a purse containing a 20-peso bill inside the latter's pocket. They also took note of the bill's serial number prior. Jeff thereafter took out a small brown paper bag containing a lemon, and asked Ariel to look for the money in his purse. When he couldn't find it, Jeff told Winnie to slice the lemon. Voila, the bill was inside the fruit. Its serial number matched with what they had noted.

The magician apparently gives greater weight to delighting his audience than merely showing off his tricks. In a post on his Facebook fan page, Jeff said, "MAGIC IS NOT ABOUT MAGIC , IT'S ABOUT THE ENTERTAINMENT ... :)"
